The UConn football team is coming off a tough Homecoming loss to old Big East rival Syracuse. The Huskies came back from three scores to almost pull off the win, but fell by one point in overtime to the Orange. That was not the only Homecoming headline. UConn was in red jerseys.
It got us at Duck on a Rock thinking, what other UConn football uniform concepts should the program explore? We went to our graphic designer here at DoaR for some answers. But since we don’t have a sponsor yet, we had to settle for AI. And yes we are sure a talented designer, or hopefully Nike, can make these look even better than the photos.
The three white uniforms above, and the navy below, are inspired by the North Carolina football uniforms. Not the throwbacks that Coach Belichick has been having the Tar Heels wear a lot this year, but their regular home and away this decade with argyle piping. UNC is a basketball school, UConn is a basketball school. North Carolina started using argyle piping on their basketball uniforms in the early 90s. The current piping for UConn basketball, as well as the classic piping on throwbacks which has been worn often the last half decade, is the signature look for the university. The UConn football team can reflect that signature look from the basketball uniforms, just like they do in Chapel Hill.

The other main gripe is the helmet decals. UConn has brought back the block C, finally putting it on white helmets in recent years, but the “new” Husky logo from 2013 should not be the only thing gracing the blue or white helmets. In all our prototypes we have either the UConn wordmark or the 2003-2012 Husky. UConn needs to put the UConn wordmark on a blue and white helmet, that is a non-negotiable. And once they do that they can explore with throwback Huskies.
