Diamond Degenerate Nose Sports – 8/29/2024

Even though Diamond nose sports, there are still tough days followed by redeeming nights. I would never lead my readers intentionally astray, but it sure seemed as though the Pirates’ bullpen intentionally blew that lead yesterday against the Cubs.

Rookie sensation Paul Skenes left the game after pitching five innings of two-run ball. And heading into the top of the seventh, with Pittsburgh up 10-3 at home, the seas seemed calm. Then the flood gates opened by way of the bullpen and it was rocky waters for the Buccos, your old pal Diamond, and my loyal readers and fellow gamblers.

When it was over, the Pirates’ bullpen had allowed 11 runs over the final three frames and the Cubbies left the ‘Burgh with a 14-10 win over the Bucs. Pittsburgh’s native son, and two-time All-Star, David Bednar has made Pirate fans want to walk the plank all season and yesterday was no different. He gave up five runs and blew his sixth save of the season, which is fitting since his ERA is well above six. The abysmal effort left fans in Western Pennsylvania wanting to crush IC Lights while it was still light out. And it made ole Diamond here want to send his bet slip to Davy Jones’ locker. Even Skenes’ national champion gymnast and model girlfriend, Livvy Dunne, was saying “Yinz gotta be kidding me.”

Both the Braves and Brewers came through in the nightcaps, giving those tailing my bets an overall winning Wednesday. But as all good, and persistent, gamblers know, we think about losses that slipped through our fingers more than the wins.

Below find my picks for Thursday:

  • Jacksonville State ML (CFB)
  • Minnesota +3 (CFB)

Diamond’s Overall Record: 4-1 (1-1 Pick of the Day)
