UConn Uniform Series, Part 3: Storrs in Imperial Blue

UConn’s first colors

Our UConn uniform concept for Part 3 of the series throws it all the way back. According to a 2017 UConn Magazine trivia question, UConn’s earliest colors in the 1890s were “white and a very light blue, known as Imperial Blue.” This basketball uniform combines the very light blue of the second decade of UConn’s existence with the national flag blue that we know today.

Why it says Storrs

The jersey says Storrs because UConn was known as Storrs Agricultural School and Storrs Agricultural College during the timeframe of these colors. The cursive script is reminiscent of some old UConn basketball photos, from a time when the jerseys said “UConns” in cursive.

Is light blue a UConn color?

Light blue may not seem like a UConn color today, but Jonathan has had light blue eyes since 2013. The UConn football team also teased a baby blue uniform as part of an April Fools’ Day joke in 2025. Finally, doesn’t this uniform just make you think of cold and icy winter nights in Storrs during basketball season?
