The fifth part of our UConn uniform series is a wardrobe edition to the most successful program at the school, the women’s basketball team. We have the UConn women’s black alternate template with the Mohegan dialect of the Algonquin language word for dog, Nahtia, across the chest.

A big year for Huskies in the WNBA
The WNBA season just ended with the Golden State Valkyries winning their first championship in their second season. The team featured four former UConn Huskies. Tiffany Hayes, Kiah Stokes, Kaitlyn Chen, and Finals MVP Gabby Williams celebrated in the Bay Area. But that was not the biggest news in the WNBA season for the Nutmeg State. Connecticut said goodbye to its only professional sports team, as the Connecticut Sun moved to Houston.
An homage to the Sun
In this jersey design the UConn women pay homage to the Sun, especially their Keesusk uniform that they have worn in recent years. Keesusk is the Mohegan word for Sun. Since there is no word in the Algonquin language family for Husky, we went with Nahtia for dog.
Not the first time
This would not mark the first time that UConn has worn an Algonquin-Mohegan language inspired word on their uniforms. That has happened on every jersey that said Connecticut.
